Private Prescriptions

Patients who access private healthcare can often be given a private prescription for treatment recommended by the Consultant/Specialist. The person signing the prescription takes full legal and clinical responsibility for the treatment they are prescribing.

Private prescriptions cannot therefore simply be 'converted' to an NHS prescription. There is a process to be followed and we kindly ask you to note the following:

  • The prescription will be passed to the GP for consideration
  • If they are happy to prescribe the recommended treatment then it will be processed as per our normal timescales and can be collected in three working days
  • If you are required to start the treatment immediately then we recommend that you take the private prescription to a pharmacy and incur the fee that will be charged, alternatively you can collect the medication at the hospital pharmacy
